That's My Shorty

I hope everyone enjoyed Father's Day! I know my family and I had a great lunch date at McAllister's. It's one of our favorite places to eat and we couldn't resist the opportunity on Sunday. Especially since during the week, my sister and I work a lot. We work at a gymnastics gym with opposite schedules, so it can be difficult to plan quality family time.

Going out with the family means I also get to pick out an outfit! It's not like I can wear my strappy nude heels to teach gymnastics, so I get excited when I have plans. I decided to wear my black shorts with a beige tribal pattern. They also have crochet detailing at the hem of the shorts to add more length. I must say the whole day I had to check if I was wearing pants. The shorts are so comfortable! I don't think I have pajamas as comfortable as those shorts.

I paired the shorts with a cream button down top. I love this top because of the studs at the collar. They give the top the perfect amount of edge I needed for my outfit. I also added my black gladiator sandals to keep it casual. With my favorite brown clutch and red lipstick I headed out to cure my hunger.

This style of shorts is a must have for the summer! They work for a lunch date or a day at the beach. I also can't wait to add the shorts to my "running late" wardrobe. A simple scoop neck tee and a boater hat will add instant style to a comfy and quick outfit.

Alma's Approach: Make this outfit perfect for a dinner date by switching out the gladiator sandals for some strappy heels! The shoe change takes your look from cute to sexy!

Read to Succeed

Can I just say how great it feels to be writing right now? The past two weeks have been so hectic with family, work and wi-fi problems! Luckily everything is fixed and you may have noticed that my blog looks a little different. I'm glad I'm finally getting the chance to customize everything, so stay tuned for the end result!

During the lack of wi-fi, I decided to read. That's right read, and not for school. I didn't think that was possible after the torturous college textbooks. My internship hosted a Twitter talk with Aliza Licht, Senior Vice President of global communications at Donna Karan International. Some of you may know her as her Twitter personality, DKNY PR GIRL. Now she has also written a book called "Leave Your Mark". I hadn't read the book when I tweeted her, and I hated being out of the loop. I purchased the book and couldn't put it down for the rest of the day.

The book is an awesome read if you are thinking about a career in the fashion industry. She gives great tips and tricks on how to be successful in any field really. You also get to read the story of how she came to be a big name in the industry. As a young woman who is very serious about professionalism, I appreciate every word Licht wrote. I am the president of the College Panhellenic Association at The University of Tampa, and I am always working with peers, advisors and well-known figures of the community. I, more than anyone, know the importance of how to act in the professional world. You would be surprised at how many people still don't know the right way to act. I have to remind myself that everyone has a different mindset. Let's just say I've had my fair share of horror stories. Next time I work with them, I'll just recommend this book.

All joking aside Licht does provide great information about resumes, presentations, social situations in the workplace and more. I don't know about you, but all this information is really helpful to know as a college student. Reading this book made me realize that it's okay that I don't know what I want to do. I can accomplish anything, as long as I'm willing to work hard enough for it.

I know this isn't like my normal posts, but I was just so inspired by this book! I wanted to share my thoughts on it with you. I hope you enjoyed this post, and make sure to definitely check out "Leave Your Mark" by Aliza Licht here!

Alma's Approach: Now that it's summer vacation pick a book that you find interesting! Read because you want to, not because you have to. This really puts the fun back into reading, and you can read the book at your pace. It's a great excuse to lay out by the pool too!

Hats Off to Waco

It's been a busy week for my family! My little sister graduated from high school, so some of my extended family flew down to see her. There were 11 people in one house, so it was pretty cramped. Although, hanging out with my family means there is no dull moment. Today, my family decided to take my grandparents to Waco, Texas. We had never really seen what the city had to offer, but with a little research we were taken back in time.

Our first stop was the Texas Ranger Museum. I don't know about you guys, but when I hear Texas Ranger I think of Chuck Norris. It turns out real Texas Rangers have been around for a long time. They have helped with many crimes in and out of the state. As a matter of fact, they still exist today! It really was an incredible sight with an inside look on what it was like to be one of the famous Texas Rangers.

The next stop was the Dr. Pepper Museum! I stopped drinking soda about one year ago, but I couldn't resist having a cup while I was at the birthplace of my favorite soda. It was a cute, tiny museum with a rich history of how Dr. Pepper started. Fun fact: The creator of Dr. Pepper wanted it to taste like what a pharmacy store smelled like at the time. How weird is that?

With all the sight seeing happening, I had to have an adorable outfit. Hats have always been something I wanted to get into. They are so chic and are perfect for a bad hair day. I purchased this boater hat from Forever 21 and I have never been happier. I love the straw material and color, which is perfect for the summer. I paired it with a black baby doll dress that has a gorgeous pattern on the top. This one hat turned my whole outfit around! I also felt much cooler walking around under the hot Texas sun. I kept accessories simple with my Coach crossbody bag and gladiator heels.
